We want TooLab.io to be usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. This statement explains what we have done, what we know is still limited, and how to reach us.
1. The standard we follow
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and Israeli Standard IS 5568, in line with the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 2013.
2. What we have done
- All controls are real buttons and links that work with the keyboard, and they show a visible outline when focused.
- Icon buttons have text labels that screen readers announce.
- On the desktop, the first press of the Tab key shows a "Skip to the desktop icons" link.
- The desktop has a main heading for screen readers, and its menus and dialogs have names that screen readers announce.
- Links to the terms and policies, including this statement, are on every page.
- The interface is available in eight languages, with full right-to-left layout for Hebrew and Arabic.
- Results are shown with words and icons, not by color alone (for example "Working" and "Problem found").
- There are light and dark modes. On photo wallpapers, icon names get a dark backing so they stay easy to read.
- Animations are switched off when your system is set to reduce motion.
- The layout adapts to small screens and to browser zoom.
- Windows can be minimized, maximized and closed with buttons you can reach with the Tab key.
- The keyboard test captures every key while it is open. Press Esc three times in a row to leave it using only the keyboard.
- The Accessibility button next to the light and dark mode switch, on the desktop, the site pages and every tool, makes the text bigger, turns on high contrast, underlines links and stops animations. Your choice is saved in your browser and applies everywhere on the Site.
3. Known limitations
- Some tests depend on a particular sense by their nature: the display test relies on sight, and the speaker test relies on hearing.
- Moving and resizing windows by dragging needs a mouse or a touch screen. You can maximize or close any window with the keyboard instead.
- Live charts, such as the microphone waveform and the mouse trail, are visual. The same information is also shown as numbers next to them.
- Some tool pages do not have a main heading yet, a few form fields in tools are missing labels, and the menus of the Photo Editor and Audio Editor are not fully usable with the keyboard. We are fixing these.
- In the default colors, some text inside the tools has lower contrast than WCAG asks for. High contrast in the Accessibility menu fixes this, except for the samples in the Color Picker, which show the color you picked.
- The Aim Trainer is a game played by aiming with a mouse, a touchpad or a touch screen. Its menus and buttons work with the keyboard, and the final results are announced to screen readers.
- In the Video Editor, clips can be moved and trimmed by dragging, or with the keyboard: the arrow keys and Alt with the arrow keys on the timeline, and the fields in the properties panel. The video preview itself has no text description.
- In the Image Watermark tool, the watermark can be placed with the nine position buttons, or moved freely by dragging it or with the arrow keys on the preview.
- In the SVG to 3D Model tool, the 3D preview can be turned with the arrow keys, zoomed with + and −, and reset with 0. The size, the edges and the colors are set with ordinary form fields, and the model's size is announced after each change.
- In the SVG Editor, every action is in the menus with its keyboard shortcut. The Layers panel lists every layer and object and works with the arrow keys (Enter selects, F2 renames, Delete deletes), the arrow keys move what is selected, and the position, size and colors can be typed in the panels.
- The legal documents are available in English only.
We keep working on these areas. If something does not work for you, please tell us.
