Record a remote interview demo for customer support
Capture a remote interview demo with the right screen and audio, protect customer details, and make a clear local recording for support.
You need to show a customer support issue during a remote interview or call, but a recording can easily miss the other person's voice, capture the wrong window, or reveal information that should stay private.
Use the Screen Recorder on a computer to capture a screen, window, or browser tab, with sound, your microphone, and your camera if needed. The recording stays on your device, so you can review it before sharing.
Record the interview demo
- Open the Screen Recorder on a computer. It does not work on phones. Decide whether the viewer needs the whole desktop, one application window, or just a browser tab. A single window or tab usually keeps unrelated information out of the video.
- Close private documents and unrelated tabs, then arrange the call and demo so the important details are visible. Ask the other person for permission to record, and avoid showing passwords, personal messages, or customer records that are not needed for the explanation.
- Choose the screen, window, or tab to capture. When your browser asks, allow the screen share. If you are recording a browser-based call, select the call tab and allow its audio in the browser's sharing prompt if that option appears. The available audio choices vary by browser and operating system.
- Enable microphone audio if your explanation needs to be heard. Enable the camera only if a face in the recording helps the support team understand the demo. Check that the selected microphone and camera are the ones you intend to use.
- Make a short test recording. Say a sentence, demonstrate one step, then play it back. If the picture and sound are clear, start a fresh recording and repeat the demo at a steady pace.
Keep the call window visible while you explain what you are doing. If you need to switch between the call and another application, confirm that the selected capture covers both. A recording of one window will not automatically show another window brought to the front.
What the result means
The demo and both voices are clear
The capture includes the visual steps and the audio you need. Listen through the entire test, not just the first few seconds. Check that the remote participant is understandable and that your own voice is not too quiet or cut off.
The video appears, but the remote voice is missing
The browser may have captured the call picture without its audio. If the call runs in a browser, try selecting its tab and enabling tab audio in the browser's sharing prompt. If the call is in a desktop application, the browser may not be able to capture its sound on your setup. Make another short test before recording the full demo.
Your voice is missing or very quiet
The microphone may not be enabled, the browser may not have permission, or the wrong input may be selected. Test your microphone outside the call, then check the meeting app's input setting. The call app and browser recorder can use different microphones.
The wrong screen or window appears
Stop and choose the intended capture source again. If you chose a single window, other windows will not appear when you switch to them. Choose the full screen only when the walkthrough truly needs it, since it may reveal notifications or unrelated work.
How to fix recording problems
- Check the selected capture source. In the browser's screen-sharing prompt, choose the intended screen, application window, or tab. For a browser call, a tab capture is often the best option when you need its picture and sound.
- Allow microphone access. Check the permission icon or site settings beside the browser address bar and allow microphone access for the recorder. On Windows 11, open Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone and check that microphone access and desktop app access are on. On macOS, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and allow your browser.
- Allow screen recording on a Mac. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and allow your browser if it is listed. Close and reopen the browser if macOS asks you to restart it. The wording can differ slightly between macOS versions.
- Choose the correct microphone and camera. Select the intended devices in the recorder and in the call app. On Windows 11, check Settings › System › Sound for the input device and its level. On macOS, check System Settings › Sound › Input.
- Close apps that may be using the devices. Quit other meeting or recording apps, then try a short test again. If the microphone or camera works elsewhere but not in the recorder, reload the page and grant permission when prompted.
- Reduce competing work on the computer. Close unnecessary tabs and applications before capturing. If the preview or recording stutters, lower the amount of activity on the computer and make another brief test.
Keep the recording safe to share
A support demo should show only what is needed to reproduce or explain the issue. Turn on a do-not-disturb setting before recording, close messaging apps, and remove customer names or account details from view when possible. If a private detail appears, stop and restart the capture rather than assuming it can be hidden later.
Before sending the file, play it back from beginning to end. Confirm that the remote person's voice is included, the key steps are readable, and the recording does not contain extra conversation. The Screen Recorder keeps recordings on your device. You choose whether and how to share the finished file.
