Record a fullscreen tutorial in Edge on an office PC
Record a fullscreen tutorial in Edge with the right capture source, clear audio and fewer interruptions, then check common office PC restrictions.
You need to show an app or webpage in fullscreen, but a recording of just the recorder page will not show what you are demonstrating. The right capture choice in Edge is usually the entire screen, not a tab or a single window.
Use the Screen Recorder to capture your screen, with optional system sound, microphone audio and camera. These steps also cover common restrictions on office computers, where an administrator may control screen sharing or recording permissions.
Record the fullscreen tutorial
- Open the Screen Recorder in Microsoft Edge on your office PC. Choose screen recording and start the capture process. Edge will open its screen-sharing picker.
- Select the option for the entire screen, rather than a browser tab or a single window. If you have multiple monitors, choose the one that will display the tutorial. The wording in the picker can differ by Edge version.
- Allow screen sharing in Edge. If the picker offers a choice to share system audio, enable it when you need to record sounds from the computer. Choose a microphone in the recorder if you plan to narrate.
- Switch to the app or page you want to demonstrate and put it in fullscreen. If you are showing Edge itself, open the relevant page before recording, then enter fullscreen after sharing begins.
- Move through the tutorial at a steady pace. Pause briefly after each click or menu change so viewers can follow. Keep private messages, customer records and unrelated windows off the chosen screen.
- Stop the recording from the recorder controls, then play the saved result and check the picture and sound before sharing it.
Do a short test first, especially if the office PC has more than one display or audio device. A 10-second sample can reveal that Edge captured the wrong screen or that narration is missing.
What the recording shows
The full screen is visible, including the fullscreen app
The capture source is correct. If the tutorial is about a website, check that important text remains readable at the recording's playback size. A fullscreen view may hide browser tabs and the address bar, so include them only if the viewer needs that context.
You see only the Screen Recorder page or one app window
Edge captured a tab or window instead of the whole display. Stop and start again, then choose the entire screen in Edge's sharing picker. A window capture may also miss menus or dialogs that open in separate windows.
The fullscreen area is black or missing
Some protected video, secure screens and operating-system prompts cannot be recorded by a browser. Check that you selected the correct monitor and that the app is not displaying protected content. Do not try to record password prompts or other secure screens.
The picture is clear but the sound is missing
Screen video and audio have separate capture choices. System audio may need to be enabled in Edge's sharing picker, and narration requires the correct microphone to be selected and allowed. Play back the test recording before making a longer tutorial.
Fix common recording problems
- Clear the screen before recording. Close unrelated windows and pause notifications so private information does not appear in the video. On Windows 11, use Settings › System › Notifications to adjust alerts. On macOS, use System Settings › Notifications.
- Choose the full display in Edge. If the result shows only one tab or window, stop and repeat the capture, selecting the entire screen in the sharing picker. If there are several displays, confirm which one contains the demonstration before you start.
- Respond to Edge's sharing prompt. Screen capture requires your approval each time the browser asks. If the request was denied, start the capture again and approve it. If there is no sharing choice or the request is blocked, an office policy may disable browser screen capture. Ask your IT administrator rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
- Check the sound sources. On Windows 11, open Settings › System › Sound and check the selected microphone under Input and the playback device under Output. On macOS, check System Settings › Sound and choose the correct input and output. Enable system audio in Edge's picker if that option appears.
- Allow microphone access for narration. On Windows 11, open Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone and check microphone access for apps. On macOS, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and allow Microsoft Edge. Then return to the recorder and select the microphone you intend to use.
- Check macOS screen recording access. On a Mac, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and allow Microsoft Edge if it is listed. You may need to quit and reopen Edge before the permission takes effect. On a managed office PC, ask IT if policy blocks screen sharing or recording.
- Use a permitted demonstration instead of a protected screen. If a particular fullscreen app remains black while other screens record normally, the app may protect its content from capture. Use a non-protected test page or ask the app owner for an approved demo method.
Keep the tutorial safe to share
Review the recording from beginning to end before sending it. Look for names, email addresses, account details, notifications and browser tabs that were not meant for the audience. The Screen Recorder runs in your browser, and recordings stay on your device unless you choose to share or upload them.
