How to curl the ball into the corner
Learn how to combine aim, curl, and power in Penalty Shootout so the ball bends toward a corner without drifting wide or becoming easy to save.
A curled penalty can reach a corner from an angle that looks difficult to cover. The key is to aim slightly away from the final spot, then use controlled curl to bring the ball back toward the goal. Too much bend or power can send it wide.
In Penalty Shootout, you choose the aim, power, and curl of each kick. Use the steps below to learn how those choices affect the shot, then make small adjustments until you can repeat it.
Practice a curled corner shot
- Open Penalty Shootout and start a match. Use the aim and curl controls shown in the game, rather than relying on a guessed key or mouse gesture.
- Pick one corner. Choose the left or right side of the goal and keep practicing that side for a few shots. Changing targets each time makes it harder to tell which adjustment helped.
- Start with a modest curve. Aim a little outside the spot where you want the ball to finish, then apply curl toward the corner. A small bend is easier to control than a dramatic one.
- Use moderate power first. Make a shot with enough force to reach the corner, but not your maximum. This gives you room to distinguish the effect of curl from the effect of power.
- Watch the whole flight. Notice whether the ball bends in the intended direction, where it crosses the goal line, and whether it goes wide, high, or into the keeper's reach.
- Change one thing at a time. If the ball misses outside the post, reduce the curl or aim closer to the goal. If it stays too central, add a little curl or move the initial aim farther from the final target.
Repeat the same shot with small changes. Once the ball reaches the chosen corner consistently, try the other side. The left and right versions may feel different at first, so practice them separately rather than copying every setting exactly.
Choose the direction of the curl
For the left corner
Set the initial line slightly to the right of the point where you want the ball to finish, then curve it left. The ball should travel back toward the target as it approaches the goal. If it keeps bending away from the corner, change the curl direction instead of adding more power.
For the right corner
Use the opposite idea: start slightly left of the intended finishing point and curve the ball right. Keep the target and power steady while you test the bend. If the ball crosses the goal line too far to the side, reduce the curve or bring the aim point inward.
These are starting principles, not fixed settings. The game's response to aim and curl may make one small adjustment more effective than another. Watch the actual path of the ball and use that result to guide the next kick.
Balance curl, aim, and power
Use aim to choose the general path
Aim sets the direction the shot starts in. Think of it as choosing the ball's starting route, not just the place you want it to end up. For a curved shot, aim a little outside the final corner target, then let the bend bring the ball inward.
Use curl to shape the flight
Curl changes how the ball bends. More curl can help a shot turn toward the target, but too much can make the path hard to predict or carry the ball past the post. Begin with a restrained amount and add only what the shot needs.
Use power to reach the target
Power affects how strongly the ball travels toward goal. A fast shot may give the keeper less time to react, but power cannot correct a poor line. First find a path that reaches the corner, then add just enough power to make the shot feel purposeful.
Fix common misses
The ball curves the wrong way
Reverse the curl direction. Do not compensate by aiming far across the goal, because that can make the next shot even harder to control. Confirm the direction with one low-power practice kick before increasing force.
The ball bends past the post
Reduce the curl a little, or move the starting aim closer to the corner. Change only one of those settings for the next attempt. If you change both, you will not know which one fixed the miss.
The shot reaches the corner but goes wide or high
Check the aim before changing curl. The curve may be working, while the initial line or power sends the ball outside the goal. Bring the aim slightly inward, or lower the power if the shot is lifting beyond the target.
The keeper saves the shot
A corner shot is not guaranteed to score. Try a slightly different aim or curl while keeping the target on the same side, so the keeper has less reason to anticipate an identical path. Avoid making the curve so large that the ball misses the goal.
Build a repeatable shot
When you find a useful combination, repeat it several times before changing sides. Focus on the result, not on chasing a perfect-looking curve: the ball needs to stay inside the posts and reach a difficult area of the goal. If a shot misses, classify the miss first. A wide miss points to aim or curl, while a high miss may call for less power or a lower aim.
Practice in short sets, especially when you are still learning how the controls respond. Make small, deliberate changes and pay attention to where the ball crosses the goal line. That gives you a reliable way to curl a shot toward the corner without turning every kick into a guess.
