Browser-only PC checklist for a temporary workspace
Check a temporary PC's keyboard, screen, camera, sound, and connection in your browser, then fix issues that could disrupt your workday.
You have a temporary desk, a borrowed computer, or a new mix of monitor, dock, and peripherals. Before you rely on it for work, check that the basics respond on the actual PC you will use.
The browser-based Test Everything runs hardware checks step by step and gives you a report. You do not need to install software or have administrator access for these checks.
Check the temporary PC
- Open Test Everything on the computer at the temporary workspace. Run through the available tests and note anything that fails or behaves unexpectedly.
- Connect the equipment you plan to use: the dock, external screen, keyboard, mouse, headset, and charger. If you can, test each item while it is connected the way you will use it during work.
- When a camera or microphone test asks for permission, allow access in the browser. Check the built-in camera and microphone as well as any headset or USB device you intend to use.
- Test the keyboard, mouse, and screen as prompted. Press keys you need often, move and click the pointer, and look closely at any screen patterns for visible defects.
- Run the network checks while connected to the workspace's Wi-Fi or Ethernet. If you are using a laptop, check its battery and charger too when those tests are available.
Use the computer itself for the check, not your phone. A browser test can only examine the hardware and connection available to the device where it is running. If you have little time, focus on the equipment needed for your first task, such as the display, keyboard, audio, and network.
What the result means
The checks work, but a work app does not
If the hardware responds in the browser but a meeting, document, or work website still fails, the problem may be specific to that app, its settings, your work account, or workplace security rules. Try the actual app or service you need before the work session starts. A browser hardware check cannot confirm that you can sign in or access a company system.
One connected device is missing or unresponsive
The computer may not be detecting that device through its cable, Bluetooth connection, dock, or adapter. If a built-in device works but an external one does not, concentrate on the external device and the connection between it and the computer.
The network check is slow or interrupted
The result reflects the connection at the time of the test. Wi-Fi congestion, a weak connection in that part of the building, or a temporary internet problem can affect it. A successful speed check also does not guarantee that a particular work service is available or responsive.
A battery test is not available
This can be normal on a desktop or in a browser that does not report battery information. Battery Meter and Charger & Cable Test appear only on devices whose browser reports a battery, such as many laptops, tablets, and phones.
The browser cannot run a check
A missing result does not automatically mean the hardware is broken. The browser may lack permission, may not support a particular feature, or may not be able to access that device. Try the permission and connection checks below before drawing a conclusion.
How to fix common problems
- Reconnect the device. Unplug and reconnect the keyboard, mouse, camera, or headset. Try another USB port, connect directly to the computer instead of through the dock, or pair a Bluetooth device again.
- Allow camera and microphone access. In the browser, open the site controls beside the address bar and allow camera or microphone access for TooLab, then reload the page. On Windows 11, check Settings › Privacy & security › Camera and Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone. On macOS, check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera and System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
- Choose the right audio devices. On Windows 11, open Settings › System › Sound and select the intended devices under Input and Output. On macOS, open System Settings › Sound and choose the microphone under Input and the speakers or headset under Output.
- Check the external display. Confirm that its power and video cables are firmly connected. On Windows 11, open Settings › System › Display and check whether the screen is detected. On macOS, open System Settings › Displays.
- Reconnect to the intended network. Check that Wi-Fi is on and that you joined the right network. On Windows 11, go to Settings › Network & internet › Wi-Fi. On macOS, open System Settings › Wi-Fi. If possible, compare the result from a location closer to the access point or with Ethernet.
- Restart the computer if devices still disappear. A restart can clear a temporary connection or permission problem. On a managed work computer, contact the workplace's support team if access remains blocked or a setting is locked.
What a browser checklist cannot confirm
A browser test checks what the browser can access. It does not inspect every driver, workplace policy, installed program, or internal computer component. A screen pattern can help you notice a visible display issue, but it cannot identify every cause. A network test measures a connection to the test service, not access to every company server.
Some results also depend on the setup around the computer. A camera can work but be blocked by a closed privacy shutter. A screen can be detected while showing the wrong content arrangement. After the checks, open the app and files you need, confirm the right devices are selected there, and make sure the workspace is ready for your first task.
The tests run in your browser on the computer being checked. Speed tests exchange test data with our server to measure connection performance.
