Battery Meter missing in Safari? What to check

Find out why the Battery Meter is missing in Safari, which devices can report battery data, and where to check charge status instead.

You open the Battery Meter in Safari, but it is missing or shows no battery details. That does not automatically mean the battery is damaged. The browser has to share battery information with the page, and Safari may not provide it.

Use the Battery Meter to check what your browser can report. Then compare the result with your device's own battery settings to tell a browser limitation from a battery problem.

Check the Battery Meter in Safari

  1. Open the Battery Meter on the laptop, tablet, or phone whose battery you want to check. A desktop computer without a battery will not have battery details to report.
  2. Give the page a moment to load. If the tool does not appear, reload the page and try again in a regular Safari tab.
  3. Note which details appear, such as charge level, charging state, time left, or drain rate. The browser may provide some details but not others.
  4. Check the device's own battery screen. On a Mac, open System Settings › Battery. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings › Battery.
  5. If you can, open the same Battery Meter on the same device in another up-to-date browser. If it works there but not in Safari, the difference points to browser support rather than a faulty battery.

What the result means

The Battery Meter is missing or has no battery data

The browser is not giving the page battery information, or the device does not have a battery that it can report. Safari has generally not exposed the standard battery interface that websites use, so this result is common in Safari. It is not proof that your battery has failed.

The device's settings show a battery, but Safari does not

The operating system can read its battery even when Safari does not share that information with websites. The battery settings are the better place to check the current charge. The Battery Meter cannot make Safari reveal data that the browser does not provide.

Some details appear, but others are blank

Browsers and devices do not always provide every battery field. A charge percentage may be available while an estimate of time remaining or the drain rate is not. A missing estimate alone does not indicate a problem.

The Battery Meter works in another browser

The device can report battery information, but Safari is not making it available to this page. You can use the browser where the test works, or rely on the operating system's battery screen. There is no Safari permission switch that can force unsupported battery reporting to appear.

The operating system also cannot find the battery

This is a different issue from Safari's missing information. If a laptop or tablet does not show a battery in its own settings, or repeatedly reports that it is not charging, check the power connection and follow the fixes below.

How to fix it

  1. Reload the page. Close the Battery Meter tab, open it again, and wait for it to load. This can help if the page or browser was briefly stuck, but it cannot add battery support to Safari.
  2. Check that the operating system sees the battery. On Windows 11, open Settings › System › Power & battery. On macOS, open System Settings › Battery. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings › Battery. If the operating system shows normal charge information, the missing Safari result is likely a browser limitation.
  3. Update Safari and the operating system. On a Mac, check System Settings › General › Software Update. On an iPhone or iPad, check Settings › General › Software Update. On Windows 11, use Settings › Windows Update to check for system updates. An update can fix browser bugs, although it may not add a feature Safari does not support.
  4. Compare with another browser. Open the Battery Meter on the same device using another current browser. If battery details appear there, you have a useful comparison: the battery is being reported by the device, but Safari is not exposing it to the page.
  5. Restart only if system battery information is also missing. Restarting can clear a temporary operating-system problem. If the battery remains absent from system settings after the restart, contact the device maker or a repair shop rather than changing Safari privacy settings at random.

When the battery may need service

A missing web meter by itself is not a hardware diagnosis. Look for signs in the operating system instead: the battery is not listed, the device shuts down while it still shows charge, or charging repeatedly stops with a known-good charger and cable. If those symptoms continue after restarting, contact the manufacturer or a repair professional. A built-in battery may need service or replacement.

Why Safari can differ from the operating system

The operating system manages the battery and can display its status in system settings. A website can only see information that the browser chooses to expose through web features. Safari has generally not provided the standard Battery Status API used by browser-based battery tools, and this behavior can differ from other browsers on the same device.

The Battery Meter is a browser check, not a battery health or capacity test. For battery condition, use the device maker's built-in battery information or diagnostics.
